Heatwave records have been shattered, and an extremely protracted dry period has caused half of England and all of Wales to experience droughts, posing serious threats to the future water security of Britain and destroying the agricultural industry. British farmers have seen a reduction in crop production to an extent of 25 per cent owing to one of the driest summers. This is in addition to the damage caused by extremely high temperatures that have dried vegetation, historic canals, and sparked wildfires across large expanses of farmlands. According to predictions by governmental bodies, Britain will experience a shortage in water supply amounting to five billion liters a day by 2050, with over 20 million people in Britain under hosepipe bans.
